Nebraska Weigh Stations Truck Scales

Trucks that weigh more than 10,000 lbs gross and pickup trucks that are pulling trailers must weigh at Nebraska weigh stations. RVs don’t.

PrePass trucks that receive a green light in Nebraska must still enter an open weigh station if they are pulling an oversize/overweight (even permitted) load.

Nebraska has a museum that crosses over the I-80 freeway at mile marker 275 called the Archway Museum. There are big fines for travelers who stop to take pictures of the sight. You can take exit number 272 (Great Platte River Road) and go to visit the museum instead.

In western Nebraska, you can visit one of the original Cabella’s stores. These days there are Cabella’s stores popping up everywhere, but for years, truckers would plan a stop in at exit 59 on I 80 in Sidney, Nebraska, to buy outdoor and winter gear. The Sidney, Nebraska, store has ample truck and RV parking.

The Nebraska fuel tax rate is $0.233 per gallon of diesel. This rate includes $0.003 per gallon release prevention fee. Nebraska’s fuel tax rate is variable. It has a base rate of $0.125 per gallon plus a variable rate of $0.10 per gallon. This variable rate was reduced $0.04 per gallon on January 1, 2008.

The weigh station is 38 miles west of the Iowa border on route 20. Locals say they will open this truck scale during the spring for several hours at a time, but it’s not a 24-hour operation when it’s open. One local said he had lived in the area for 30 years and only seen it open twice. It is one scale location for trucks traveling all directions.

This is one scale that weighs trucks in both directions.

To get to the weigh station (or as an alternate route to the freeway if the route 30 North Platte scale is closed), eastbound, take exit 179 route 56G north 1.9 miles to route 30. Turn right on route 30. The weigh station is just east of town on the right in 1.2 miles. After passing or crossing the weigh station, go another 10.5 miles on route 30. You’ll see signs “To I 80.” You’ll make a right turn on route 56A spur and cross the rail road tracks. You’ll go about 2 miles back to I 80 east bound.

To get to the scales westbound, take exit 190, route 56A spur and go north about 2 miles. You’ll cross over the rail road tracks and go to the stop sign at route 30. Turn left on route 30. In 10.5 miles you will come to the scale on your left- when you get to the airport, you’ll be very close to the weigh station. After leaving or passing the weigh station, you’ll go 1.2 miles to the junction of route 56 G Link. There is a small “To I 80″ sign there. You’ll turn left and go 1.9 miles back to the ramp for I 80 west bound.

The Wahoo weigh station is located at the junction of route 77 and route 92 where route 109 turns north. Trucks are required to exit route 77/92 as though they are heading north on route 109 and then turn into the weigh station. The weigh station has signs that truckers are to turn their headlights off.

This is one weigh station that weighs trucks headed in both directions. It is small enough that if they were to weigh trucks headed both directions it would get very croweded in there very quickly.

This is one weigh station that weighs trucks headed both north and south bound. There is a Sapp Brothers Truck Stop in Fremont, NE, south of route 130 south of the Winslow weigh station.
