Just west of this weigh station around the 8-801 call box you will sometimes see dune buggies riding around the sand dunes to the south side of I 8.

A couple of years ago they pulled me around back here and did a level one inspection, which came as a surprise as I was not pulling a trailer. I passed, and as the officer (a very pleasent young lady) was applying the sticker to my windshield I casually asked her why they would "target" a bobtail. She laughed and said that they prefer 'em because they are easier...
BTW, if you see CHP cars on the east side of the Colorado river it's because most of the personnel employed at this coop live in Yuma. Apparently California has no residency requirement for state employees.
