the State of NC has lifted the restriction of 53 footers on Highway 321 between Gastonia and Hickory. Twin trailers are still banded from use on this road.

There have been a lot of questions about 53 foot trailer being allowed on highway 321 from I-40 south to I-85 in Gastonia. The answer is True. 53 foot trailer and twin trailer are not allowed on that section of the road. Citations are being written. The DOT is reviewing to see if any changes will be made, but for now travel at your own risk.

The Patrol sits on hwy70 watching for this. Try at your own risk. What can your wallet afford.

The north caroina highway patrol monitors this site and asigned trooper to work the routes that are listed for dodging the scales. I thought you might want to know this so that a trucker doesn't get a ticket himself instead of the company. Tickets at the scales goes to the company. citations go to the driver if dodging the station.

If a driver really needs to dodge these scales and miss the scales on 1-85 south of Charlotte. Then run 1-77 to exit 36 take hwy 150 west several miles to hwy 321 and south on 321 to 1-85. You will miss these scales and the scales south of Charlotte, plus miss the "mess" in Charlotte.
