Weigh Station News That Matters- May 2007
Keeping on top of changes in the trucking industry is quite a job. Weigh stations, construction zones, and trucking industry regulations keep many truckers scratching their heads. Listed here are some recent updates to help truckers navigate the roadways.
WK Parkway Construction
Starting May 21, 2007, traffic will be reduced to one lane both directions from mile marker 14 to mile marker 19 on the Western Kentucky Parkway. The construction is expected to last through August 1, 2007. Watch out for those orange barrels!
Evanston, Wyoming, Weigh Station
The Evanston Port of Entry has construction on the exit ramp for the weigh station. The state of Utah has a construction project that affects the exit ramp. For the time being, trucks are not to exit to the weigh station unless they need permits. This means that even if you don’t have a transponder in your truck, you are free to bypass the weigh station. Evanston port personnel expect operation to be back to normal by next week.
Brea, California, Check Station
Officials have been setting up in a parking lot on the west side of the 57 freeway. They are directing trucks off the north bound ramp and sending them to the parking area. They’re doing the whole deal- vehicle inspections with creepers as well as paperwork inspections. The Tonner Canyon Road exit is north of the E. Lambert Road exit. There is not an exit for Tonner Canyon Road on the south bound side of 57. If you’re headed out of the Inland Empire, the 57 freeway is one of the major routes trucks take to get to the 60 freeway or I 10 heading east bound. The only other non-toll ways to go are I 710, I 605 and the 91 Freeway. There is an active weigh station on the 91 Freeway and a lot of traffic on the 605 and 710 freeways.
Franklin, Kentucky, Weigh Station
Kentucky Post 2 is closed until further notice due to construction on the freeway in front of the Franklin Kentucky Weigh Station. Officials at the weigh station say that it’s just not safe for trucks to be exiting and re-entering the freeway in the construction zone. Progress is slow and the construction had a completion deadline that has come and gone. There is no projected re-opening date for the weigh station, but it will re-open. Possibly not until mid-June, but that will depend on the progress of the construction.
Gilroy, California, Weigh Station South Bound
The south bound Gilroy weigh station is closed for remodeling. They are doing structural and cosmetic repairs to the facility. The weigh scale is not under construction. The weigh station is expected to be closed until mid-June.
Conejo, California, Weigh Station Northbound
and Southbound
Drivers notified us that the Conejo Weigh Station truck scales have been closed a lot. CHP officials say that the north bound and south bound Conejo scales are having staffing issues and, as a result, are very likely to be closed on weekends and holidays.
