Road Check 2007 Hot Spots
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Road Check 2007 began today. The official dates for the CVSA Road Check are June 5th through June 7th, 2007. Expect increased inspections during this time. Drivers have contacted us to let us know where some of the hot spots to watch out for are. Below is a limited list of what other drivers have seen.
Please keep us posted on what you see during the rest of the Road Check (leave a comment below).
Truck inspectors were set up in the service plazas along the Ohio Turnpike. They were not flagging trucks in from the freeway- instead the inspectors were walking up to parked trucks, asking the driver for his paperwork, and performing the inspection in the back of the lot. We’re not sure who came up with this brain storm. Moral of the story: don’t go into a service plaza on the Ohio Turnpike for the next few days.
The word on the CB was that there were more trucks parked around back at the west bound New Hopewell weigh station than there were at the Flying J in Temple, GA! Inspectors were waiting to check logs as drivers pulled across the scales and there was a long line at the inspection bay. PrePass trucks were getting the red light but the scale was changing the sign to closed if trucks were backed out on the ramp. Better get your ducks in a row!
Officers will, on occasion, stand out at the toll booths on the north bound scale on I 95 and direct trucks into the weigh station. They were doing that today. Truck inspectors were doing paperwork and vehicle inspections in the lot. Drivers say that all the Maryland weigh stations were busy today.
West Salem (La Crosse), Wisconsin
Drivers report that the east bound weigh station was pulling in all trucks and closing only when the ramp backed out onto the freeway. Inspectors were performing paperwork and vehicle inspections on upwards of 8 trucks at a time.
Inspectors were out with cones and creepers performing inspections on trucks on the south bound side.
Officers were performing some paperwork and vehicle inspections today. There isn’t much truck traffic through here, so they might just be bored in there!
Business as Usual
Drivers reported that Wyoming and Nebraska along the I 80 corridor were no busier than usual and that scales were closed in South Carolina.

Oklahoma- west bound rest area on I 40 mile marker 283. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission was set up today with a mobile trailer and portables. They had about 5 or 6 trucks pulled over. Didn’t see any vehicle inspections

DOT was set up today (Wednesday) in both rest areas west of Flagstaff, Arizona, on I 40. This is at mile marker 185 west bound and probably about the 189 mile marker east bound. All trucks had to pull in- they had trucks pulled over before the weigh station and then at least one truck missed the weigh station and they had him pulled over beyond the rest area.

DOT was set up at the Swansea, MA, scale on I 195, east of Providence, the south bound I 95 scale in Connecticut close to the Rhode Island border, and at the Rhode Island scales on I 95.

Florida has been busy as well. There has been a truck either in the inspection bay, or awaiting entrance to the inspection bay at every scale I’ve crossed from Tampa to Pensacola. I knew something was going on.
