Trucking isn’t a desk job. More and more over the road truckers have computers these days, but the rigors of the job are tough on electronics. The roads are rough- and sometimes things fall. Other times things spill. Neither scenario is good for laptop computers!

That said, this coming week, CoopsAreOpen is going to be tough to reach. Please feel free to leave comments and “Contact Us” with questions, suggestions or concerns. But please be patient- we will try to access the internet in the interim, but no promises. Anyone who has used those internet kiosks at the truck stops can tell you that they are a hit or miss proposition!

It’s that time of the year again!

The 2290 Heavy Higway Vehicle Use Tax is a $550 federal excise tax that must be paid on all vehicles that weigh 55,000 lbs or more and operate on public highways. The reporting period is from July 1st in any given year to June 30 the next year. The tax bill that is currently due is for the reporting period of July 1st, 2007, through June 30, 2008. If the vehicle will not put on more than 5,000 miles in the coming year (or, if it is agricultural, if it won’t put on more than 7,500 miles in the year), the $550 payment isn’t required, but you still must file form 2290.

Unless you are a new owner operator, you should have received form 2990 in the mail. You’ll need to read through the instructions, fill out the form, and mail it in by August 31st with payment.

Well, folks, it appears that most of the techincal problems we ran into have been fixed. The server move was completed on Sunday, August 5th, and the website now appears to be functioning correctly. We are now able to access emails via “contact us.” If you previously sent a message that was not answered, please re-send it (and don’t forget to check your junk mail folder in case we did reply- some filters stick our emails in your junk box). We’ve done a lot of testing, but it is possible that there may still be a glitch or two lurking about.

Please let us know if you experience any other technical glitches so we can fix them asap!
