Hansen (Murtaugh) Weigh Station Information
State: Idaho Scales and DOT
Highway: RT US RT 30 - wb/eb
Location: Hansen
Mile Marker: 234
PrePass: No
Information
This is just a pullout where dot will set up portable scales- it is one scale that weighs trucks headed east and west bound. It's located on the east bound side of route 30. West bound will come over a blind hill just before the weigh station- so be careful of oncoming traffic when pulling out of the scale. DOT will set up here several times during the harvest times. They will check trucks hauling livestock and farm trucks.
The truck scale is located at the historical marker of the Caldron Linn Historical Site. The sign for the marker reads:
In 1811, the Hunt Party likened the terrific torrent of the Snake three miles east of here to a boiling cauldron. Adding the old Scottish word "Linn," meaning a waterfall. They had lost a man and a canoe in a roaring chute upstream. Finding worse water ahead, they abandoned river travel. Next year, another explorer said of Caldron Linn, "It's terrific appearance beggars all description." Today no road reaches the spot and the name is forgotten.
