Well, I got hired for the other job last week, turns out there was a LOT more too it than they offered to mention until the day they called me to come in.

Long story short, I turned it down.

Well my quest for employment continued, the most experience I have is in tanker.
So of course this is the route I looked into. I applied to a few of them, got a lot of calls.
I decided to go with Indian River Transport out of Winterhaven,FL. I will be out 2 weeks or more at a time.
No loading or unloading they (shipper and receiver) do it all. They have 3 terminals, the one in Winterhaven,FL. they have one in New Mexico, and one in California.
I am suppose to get on a plane Monday and fly to Winterhaven, or whatever is closest airport, orientation Tue and Wed and leave out there after.

Anybody have any bad knowledge of this company?

I don't know anything about 'em except that I see their trucks all over the place. Good luck in your new job and keep us posted on how it works out for you.

Best wishes with Indian River, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. I have run into severeal of their drivers at the places that I go into and I can't say that I am impressed with what I hear. Talked to one driver who had been out 4 months and when he got in, they gave him the devil for asking for a few days off.

I will grant you one thing, hauling food grade products such as Indian River does, is easy, but time consuming. You will sit for several hours trying to get unloaded. Velda Farms right there in Winter Haven, Fl is a prime example, I have wasted hours after hours at this "hole in the wall". Appointments mean nothing unless you are late, you might have a 8:30 PM appointment, you will be lucky to get out of there by midnite.

Good luck!!!

Thanks...

I did a little more digging, and actually found a driver online who "drove for them"

I e-mailed him and ask him about them....His response was that they were ok, but he could not make enough money with them, that I could run legal if I chose too, and that a freind of his kept telling him the entire time he was there...."But you have a nice truck"

Well a nice truck is not what I want...I want to be able to stay legal, and make money.

I revisited the pay package e-mail IR sent me...It says "new 379 petes bla bla bla....Why include this into the pay package? This would not determine whether I would drive for them or not. It also has no mention of "wait" or "layover" pay. I also went to safestat and that almost scared me.

Anyway I have called them and canceled my orientation...awaiting some more phone calls from other companies.

...new 379 Petes...big deal, which means they DON'T CARE about Fuel Mileage one itsy bit.
Driver SEA @ 79.06 or so is pretty bad and comparable to jbhunt, swift, crst, etc...
GOOD DECISION not to go there.

What about Schneider??
They HAVE a Tanker Division!!

Check their SafeStat:

I had thought about them, but I turned my hazmat back in. I don't feel like getting it back.

I had a wreck a few years ago while pulling a tank loaded with 7000 gallons of Acetone, was not my fault I got hit in the arse. There was 28 vehicles involved I was number 26 a car that got between me and the truck that hit me was 27 and he (other truck) made 28.

After that I didn't feel much like hauling flammables and poisons around much anymore, so I turned them back in.

I have reapplied with one of my old companies (LCL Bulk Transport) I hope to hear from them.
But there are still a few I'm waiting to hear from also.

Well, I have made a decision to go with Indian River transport. I will fly out this coming Monday for orientation.

I checked into a few other food grade tanker jobs and all others still require you to carry hoses and pump most the loads off.

According to the lady on the phone they (Indian River) is not like this.

Anyway I guess I will find out. Very Happy

Hey Radiomancb, make sure to rent a car when you get to Winterhaven. Daytona Beach ain't that far and after all it is...Spring Break!

Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Hug and kiss the wife, because it might be a while before you get to again.
