| you must have been in the left lane- I've heard you're not allowed in the left lane even if there are only 2 lanes- so you could be passing (going over the truck speed limit) and impeding the flow of traffic (going under the car speed limit). California stinks sometimes. |

Anyone get pulled for smoking cigarettes, pipes, cigars in ones truck??
I'm not refering to haz/mat loads, just simply smoking while driving ones truck.
I'm curious about how this state works this through since they're so anal as to make smoking "illegal" on beaches and other OUTDOOR venues.

Hey- they made it illegal in Canada to smoke in your truck, so it makes sense that California will do it.
You can get an abortion and smoke crack, but you can't smoke a cigarette.
I don't smoke, but I don't tell other people what to do either. |

Andrew Dice Clay a number of years back stated in his routine that he was waiting for a bus in 'Frisco, Cal. and decided to have a smoke. The people standing near decided that he would not even though there was (supposedly) two guys "going at it". He stated that it was okay to bugger your buddy in public but one couldn't puff a Marlboro?? What a (expletives deleted) society!!
I'm from California however I got out (11-85) before some of the more stupider "laws" were enacted and I'm glad because I would have been arrested for smoking among other things. I also glad I got out b4 the restriction of smoking in a bar. I can smoke in my car after visiting the Liquor store and probably have another "bar" later or a bar to breathing altogether.
I've "heard" about Truck drivers being handed tickets for smoking in their trucks because Cali. "laws" state: "No smoking in public buildings or other venues related" or words to that effect, therefore smoking in ones truck constitutes a public building because supposedly ones cab is ones office and an office is in a building, so....
Cal. is soooo ANAL now in that if you're at home in YOUR house and you or someone is smoking and your windows are open and the smoke travels into someones home that does NOT smoke, these other folk can have fines imposed upon you simply because 'they were bothered', so go figure. They can actually call the cops and the cops can actually write you a ticket, for smoking.
Talk about having fun with neighbors after that little stop, huh?!!
Can't smoke in any bldgs in Florida, California, Arizona, Texas, and other states especially in the North East, however Motels/Hotels are still unaffected for now yet some Hotels/Motels are entirely smoke free.
If a business that sells Tobacco states NO SMOKING in its interior, then why do these places still sell smoking items?? I guess so we can irritate people by smoking near the entrances/exits, because so far there are no restrictions implemented at some places to eliminate these practices.
In Texas there is a restriction (in San Antonio or state wide??) to how close to ANY building entrance one can be and smoke--something like 35 feet away from an entrance/exit. Cops can be called to either remove the offenders or issue tickets. This outta be fun!!
Oh what fun there is to be for us the smokers and soon the drinkers.

That is so funny- my sister used to live in San Francisco and I was always noticing how stuck up people there seem to be. We would get out there fairly often in the truck (not so much the past couple of years) and people are just stuck on themselves in a goody two-shoes way.
My husband smokes a pipe and he was walking around the So SF truck stop (by the airport) and had the pipe in his mouth UNLIT. Well, he went over to the Pacific Pride or CFN or whatever that is next to the SSF t.s. and there were of course fuel islands there and some lady told him he shouldn't be smoking around there. He was like, "whatever lady." I'm surprised SHE didn't call the cops.
I hear a lot of folks in that area who just can't keep their mouths shut- God forbid a political conservative has anything to say!
It's a mess! _________________

Is smoking then "illegal" in 'Frisco even being OUTSIDE??
I dunno as I rarely get to Californucatia.
In Barstow at a t.a. there are (or were) ashcans near the entrances/exits, so I guess it'll be okay fer a wheel yet, eh?!
I like the places that have banned smoking inside and yet still have the ashtrays in the showers among other places.
I'll continue to annoy and pester the anal people that are against smoking but not against things as: drinking excessively, beating on people, cursing anyone for anything and nothing, trying to shove some religious Dogma down someones throat.
Yeah, I'll quit smoking sometime hopefully before Death, which by the way cures ALL ailments, yet I refuse to join the anal masses against freedom of choice to smoke or not.
I'm still waiting to get pulled over for smoking while driving. That'll be a fun one to work through. Oh well, we'll see what happens next in this world of trials and tribulations. _________________ All Women are Ladies till they prove otherwise. |

I used to be a finger pointing non-smoker... I would shake my head and make rude comments when walking into the office I used to work in I'm embarrassed that I did that- we're ALL going to die of something. That's the one certainty we have in life.
I can die smoke-free, skinny and dessert-less at 50 or I can die lit up, fat and happy at 85. Who knows?
I don't like smoking, don't get me wrong. And I don't like being around cigarettes, but I just move out of the smoke- same as I would a camp fire. The smoke from those is nasty, too, but no one freaks out! _________________

Now dig this scene man, there is a flying j on I-75 in Ohio either in Lima or Findley that has the NON smoking area in the MIDDLE of the restaurant ELEVATED, so go figure. Smoke generally stays at the 3 foot level when there is no ventilation or air flow, so by putting the NON smoking area ABOVE the smokers makes ZERO sense, yet we are talking about flying j.
There are other oddities at other places I'm sure.
These places that sell smoking materials yet restrict folk from smoking inside buildings are fun when we smoke at the entrances/exits.
Were I still drinking Alcohol and living in California, I wood be drinking outside as I could then smoke.
The next "assault" will be the drinking folk or the red meat eaters or some other pointless avenue of destruction.
Who knows, who cares, why bother...... click...... boom. _________________ All Women are Ladies till they prove otherwise. |

| If you were in California drinking and smoking outside, you'd probably offend the good buddies up there in the gay bay. |

I was just in an Ohio service plaza and the trucker lounge was one room with smoking on one side and no smoking on the other side- with maybe 5 feet between seats. Figure that one out.
And it's been a long time since I've been there but I think it was the Sapp Bros in SLC had a sealed off room for truckers only where you could smoke. I think that was part of the law- that in trucker locations if they had sealed-off rooms, you would be allowed to smoke indoors... kill off the outta state-ers with the lung cancer I guess... _________________

And dont foreget "pipes and cigars are not a safe alternative to cigarettes."
Ever listen to the cigar Dave show? All of the adds have these types of disclaimers on them it is pretty funny. I smoke cigars. I would love to have acop pull me over and give me a ticket. If for nothing else, it would probably make on hell of a story. The police would probably pull me over 2 ft over the white line and a car would rear end the trailer and kill 7 illegals packed into a 81 chevette. I would then be sued by the illegals and probably lose evereything I have. I would probably then get sued by the state because I put thier officer a risk by forcing him to pull me over because I was smoking a Cigar.
I have heard that your truck is a "little piece" of the state that is is registered in. Say that you have a pet ferret. Ferrets are not allowed in Cali (would probably kill a spotted owl somewhere). You are allowed to have them in your truck because your truck part of thew state where registered. Not sure on this, but I would certainly try it on an officer if he pulled me over. |
