I was using an accounting service for a while- sent them all my bills for each quarter and they added everything all up. They kept missing things like my cell phone bill or my truck insurance so I started doing it all myself.

I'd like to find another service- any suggestions?

My wife does our bills. I have a good tax lady out of New Mexico but she's not taking any more clients. Good luck- good accountants are hard to come by and bad ones can really mess you up.

I had to use Volvo's accounting service about 7 years ago when I bought my first truck through them. They sucked. They told me my cell phone bill was too high. I didn't use them for my taxes.

I think it's a lot cheaper to just take a day every quarter and do it yourself...

But, here are 2 websites for accounting services:

http://www.attrucktax.com/welcomeletter.htm
http://www.43truck.com/index.htm

I don't use either but I know drivers who do.

Thanks, steeledragon. Where are they located?

Our last accountant did a real job on us- he didn't know trucking and it showed. We paid a lot more in taxes than we should have. The accountant we use now does a good job.

Of course, how do you know? Everyone thinks they have a good accountant until they find out otherwise. There really isn't a way to compare accountants so far as I can tell. They all do things a little differently and the results depend on how your run your truck etc. There are too many factors to compare apples to apples.

The company that I use is Chariot Business Solutions they specialize in Transportation industry. They are located in Ogden, Ut they do everything from incorporation, authority aquisition, quaterly weight/distance taxes, driver file and log mgmt., to paying my personal bills for me. They have gone so far as to meet me at 1am at the Flying J to pick up paperwork and to get my signature on some tax forms. You can call 801-337-4554 and get info sent to you.

As for a good business accountant I have noticed that confidence and honesty in an accountant has always worked best for me. If they are honest enough to say that they don't know the answer to my question but confident enough to say that they will find it out for me then i am going to stick with them until proven otherwise.

Wow. Sounds like people who really know trucking! Sometimes non-truckers who work with/for truckers just don't get it. You can see that at truck shops and even fuel desks sometimes. It's nice that there are business people who understand that you can't just drop your trailer at the truck stop and bobtail over...

A cost effective option would be to use Clackamas Bookkeeping Service, in order to direct the accounting functions of your business and work only the hours that are necessary. This option saves you additional staffing costs.
