What with freight at record lows more and more drivers are finding themselves sitting for extended periods of time. Couple that with the age old problem of there not being enough parking spaces in the truck stops and rest areas to begin with and you can see that... "it ain't gonna get no better no time soon." Triple negative not withstanding (I believe that trumps a double negative) I'm thinking that the time has come to "cough up" some of our secret stashes of places to park around the country...

This thread is meant for an exchange of information concerning new truck stops and ones that have recently closed. The "Big Three"; Pilot/Flying J, T.A./Petro and Love's all publish location guides that keep us relatively up to date but the smaller chains and one-of-a-kind "Mom & Pop" establishments come and go and what was there yesterday may not be there today. This is the place to keep our brothers and sisters in the industry abreast of the latest openings and closings of the "other" places to park.

I'll start with two closures in the western part of the country:

The Wesco truck top in Newberry Springs,CA I-40 exit 23 has closed. The building has been extensively vandalized but you can still park there. There's room for about 20 or 30 trucks and if you're heading west Kelly's truck stop at exit 18 is still open and has a store and restroom facilities. If you're eastbound there's full service at the Chevron and Unical at exit 50 in Ludlow.

The Rocky Mountain Travel Center in Piņon,CO I-25 exit 110 closed a few months ago. It's got enough room to park at least 50 trucks and six miles south, at exit 104, is a brand new Love's that has full service 24 hours.

What do you say, let's help each other out and keep everyone up to date on what's going on out here...

This past week-end, I took a load to Nashville, Tn. Although I got my 10 hours off in Nashville before I started back, I didn't get out of Nashville until 10:30pm and along about Knoxville, I started getting a little drowsy, hell I couldn't buy a place to park. I finally found a spot in Va. @ mm13 in the trucker's rest area.

One of the big reason that I love to run Florida is that the weigh stations have about a hundred spaces for parking and nice rest rooms for truckers. I don't understand why each state cannot follow Florida in this. Some states even block off their scale houses when they are closed. Ga. will let trucks park if they are closed, but they don't have any restrooms and there is always the danger of a DOT inspection, which Florida will not do unless there is an obvious reason.

Excellent thread Russ. I know over here in the Northeast parking is a big problem after 4pm.

Maine.295 exit 43 Richmond NB make a right off ramp,SB make a left off the ramp. There is a street between the Dunkin Donuts and the truckstop. Make that right and then left and go thru the fuel island. If you miss the street use the 2nd entrance . Limited hours of operation. They have a deli/grill that makes fresh sandwiches and pizza. Limited parking maybe 10-20 trucks.

Both Kittery scale houses have been closed lately. SB has some parking but I know NB has a lot of parking but the gates are closed. There is some controversary going on about those 2 scales. There not suppose to be there as they are on a toll road.

Sydney, Old Town and Pittsfield USED to be rest areas but are now weigh stations Rolling Eyes Hit or miss on them but are very easy to around Wink

Good thread, Russ!

I bet I've spent more nights parked behind strip malls than Pilots, Loves, etc. I'm a little hesitant to post exact locals as I dont want to tell some to go to MALL X only to get woke up and kicked out.......but I've yet to have a problem.

Look for side street access, not the front enterances where the 4wheelers drive in that has tight curbs with false medians purposely designed to keep wide swinging trucks out.

Scale, mm 103, SB I-77, NC.
Parking available when closed AND if you're parked near the Platform YOU WILL BE WOKEN UP TO MOVE.
Scale usually open about 0700.
NB same mm area yet unsure if Human Alarm Clock available.
A wee bit smaller (less parking) than SB.
Toilets provided by Nature--go in the woods.

Brintles Truckstop, Eastside 77, mm101/x101/Rt. 89 AND GOOD LUCK before Sun sets and DON'T BOTHER when Dark as you may well get stuck--meaning NO ROOM to reverse course/turn around--.
Place gets JAMMED UP Mon-Fri Nights.

NC had started enforcing NO PARKING ON RAMPS in late '08--early '09.

There's a new Loves at the Line of NC/VA on the EB side.
No running room before NB hill climb and seemingly deadly to exit SB, 270 degree RH Loop.
