When I first read "You will need a W-9..." I actually thought to myself, "why do you need a Kenworth?"
In my defence, it's 5:30 am and I'm just barely awake!
Good post, truckerspaces- thank you for sharing that! _________________

Well i'm just jumping into this. I have read the posts on this subject.
I feel most of the posts are aimed to big rigs.
I know that most of the forms/permits are the same.
My situation would be a f350 dually and a 42' gooseneck enclosed trailer to haul cars.
Yes I will be starting an "s" corp and all that goes with that (been there done that before).
I have a CDLC lic. I am restricted to 26k combined Wt. truck and trailer. That is do able for me.
I will file for an "operating auth." and get a DOT number. The MC# is foggy for me and the insurance for the min coverage is an unknown factor. And also where it get it.
I have read about running yourself crazy and not making any money. I would like to hook up with a broker (s) to get loads. Is that possible and what are the draw backs of that..I know thay get a cut.
Anyone with my situation please chime in on your experiences and info..thanks a lot,,,stevo |

Getting you own authority is a good idea, that way you can broker your own loads. One source of loads could be sellers on EBAY. Lots of vehicles (cars, pickups, motorcycles, tractors, etc.) are sold on EBAY. The sellers need a way to get them to the buyers and "hot shots" (that's not a derogatory term, it's what you'll be doing) are the most economically feasible means of providing this service. You could also lease on to a company that specializes in hot shot freight, that way you could cover the gaps in "back hauls". HERE'S a link to get you started.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing. We're happy to have you aboard.
