Parking: Exit 16 has Texaco, TA and Love's truck stops east of the Gallup weigh station. There is a Speedy's Truck Stop at the border to Arizona west of the port of entry.
Information
There are no visible weigh in motion sensors in the roadway heading up to the Gallup scale and there is only one PrePass pole over the freeway. New Mexico has built a spot on the opposite side of the freeway to pull in west bound trucks for paperwork and portables. That area is directly across from the east bound weigh station's ramp back onto I 40.

Grumpy inspectors TRY to find something wrong with your paperwork. The guy accused us of having expired insurance when he was looking at the EFFECTIVE date, not the EXPIRATION date. They should teach their inspectors how to read. They need to remember that they are PUBLIC OFFICERS and we help pay their wages. When they are selling permits they are in customer service and should greet us with respect and kindness. We went in there in complete compliance with every law and they treated us like we were criminals as soon as we walked through the door. I'm so sick of these inspectors additudes. There is no reason for it. They all need an additude adjustment.

alternate rt take exit 357 north from I40. to hwy 264 east. follow that to gallup and to I 40.. total out of rout miles are 23
